Rome restaurants – Vecchia Roma

There are many outstanding Rome restaurants but one that you should try is Vecchia Roma.  The price is reasonable and they have the a really good Bucatini all’Amatriciana.

We have never heard of this place until a friend mentioned that he was craving for amatriciana.  He made the booking and we met him up there.  From then on, we would bring guests here and all have enjoyed the experience.

What makes this place different is because once the pasta and the tomato sauce have been mixed together, they then put them in a cheese barrel and stir it up in there to make it nice and creamy.  It’s super delicious and even those who usually can’t finish a plate of pasta ends up almost licking the dishes.

They also have a good appetizer buffet which doesn’t have a wide variety of choices but everything is good.  I usually pass on the dessert here because nearby there’s Fassi which in my opinion is one of the best gelato places in Rome.  Once in a while, I will also get arrosticini which are lamb skewers depending on how hungry I am.

Vecchia Roma is extremely popular with tourists and residents alike which means it is often very crowded  unless you head there earlier to beat the crowds (which we often do).  If possible, call ahead to make reservations  so you won’t be disappointed.  There are located in Esquilino and the restaurant is actually in the basement.  Nonetheless, they have done it up quite decently.
