My Favorite Lunch Place: L’Asino D’Oro

I brought my sister to L’Asino D’Oro and she absolutely loves this place. Here’s her take on it.

It’s perfect for me! I no longer consume large portions so the portion-size here were perfect! Although I would agree they would probably be too small for some, it’s lunch and you don’t want to go back to work or whatever you need to do suffering from food coma.

I enjoy variety so having three different small courses and also, an amuse bouche to start things off is sheer joy.  Add water and a choice of white or red wine. All this for only $12 euro.

Furthermore when we don’t have to make any decisions and are just served, we like that.  I loved the place so much that I’ve already been back a second time to taste and entirely different menu.

As BrowsingRome has already written on L’Asino D’Oro, this post is a visual one for you to get an idea of the delicious dishes served here.

On the first visit, this was the menu.

  1. Wow! I am so very there the next time I go to Rome. And only 12 Euro? But what is on the crostini of the first Amuse Bouche? Inquiring minds need to know!

    Thanks for the visual meal!

    • Hi Barbara, yes it is really a deal for 12 Euro. When they gave us the amuse bouche we didn’t really pay attention but it tasted like mascarpone. It was a rich, creamy cheese and absolutely delicious! Glad you like the visual meal.

  2. Hi Diana, I stumbled upon your website and found this article.

I first had lunch at L’Asino d’Oro many many years ago in Orvieto (I think it was 2003). Last year I went back to Orvieto and wanted to visit the place, only to find that the restaurant has moved to Rome, which is so much nearer to where I live! Glad to know that the restaurant is still serving delicious meals, should make an effort to go to Rome. 🙂

    Thanks for the great content.

    • Hi Sze Mian, thank you for leaving a comment. It’s fantastic that they are now in Rome – makes it easier for us who live here and many visitors to Rome. Their lunch is an excellent value and one I would highly recommend.

      • Hi Diana, I went there yesterday, but it was closed! Really too bad, maybe next time. Luckily there is no short of wonderful places to eat in Rome.

        • Hi Sze Mian, Oh what a bummer but you are right – plenty of great places to eat just in Monti alone!
