It also snows in Rome, Italy

A moped caught in the snow in Rome, ItalyIt doesn’t happen very often, actually it’s very rare that it snows here in Rome, Italy.  The forecast did expect it to happen but I think it took everyone by surprise as it snowed a lot. Not surprisingly, there was traffic everywhere and city basically came to a halt.  People were mainly taking public transportation making them super packed.

Some people were actually crazy enough to go out with their mopeds.  It was of course impossible to maneuver but I guess once you are caught in the snow you really have no other option. (picture on the left)

It snows in Rome, ItalySchool children were let out of their classrooms so they could have snowball fights.  By the afternoon, it all cleared up and there were no traces that it had snowed that morning.  The sun was out and the city resumed it’s normal activity.  Many children and adults alike enjoyed the few hours of snow that we had.  It was a different sight of the city and it look liked a Winter Wonderland – if you were not caught in the mess.   Here are a few photos we took to prove that it did snow it Rome, Italy!

  1. Is that usual that kids are let out so they can enjoy the snow and have snow fights? That’s pretty cute 🙂

  2. What a surprise! After all your descriptions of the wonderful weather, it actually snows there. Not much, but enough to enjoy and make it a really special day for everyone. Thanks for sharing the news and the photos.

  3. This seems like a great way to begin the blog, with an unusual weather condition. It must have been inspiring!

  4. How beautiful! =) I never imagined it could snow there in Rome either! There’s a similar phenomenon in Vancouver. It snows so little that no one knows what to do when it does snow. Unfortunately, there are often accidents because drivers and their cars aren’t prepared for the slipperiness. At the same time, the community does come out and play! =) Loved reading about this! =)

  5. Some people are mad- a moped in the snow?!

  6. How long does this snow season last in Rome? I have just read a lot of posts about snow… you guys are freezing; and we just see one month of winters and call that cold! 🙂

    • Hopefully it will be over soon! It has stopped snowing now but in other parts of Italy, they are still dealing with heavy snowfall. I just got an email from a friend who is in Tuscany and she is tired of this hahaha. Normally winter is not this harsh in Rome – just this time around – I hope!

      • Winter has been tough most parts of Europe right?

In spite of all the sun, we have a very cold breeze today! The world is getting colder!
